Marriage of Simon Lereau

Ile d'Orléans, 1655

Tuesday morning, November 27 1655, with their family and friends, Simon Lereau and Suzanne Jaroussel went to a small chapel built by another colonist, Gabriel Gosselin near his house, on a piece of land that he had received from  the fief of Beaulieu, near the western extremity of l'Ile d'Orléans. Reverend Father René Menard, jesuit, was waiting for them for the marriage ceremony. 

In that chapel, the marriage of Simon Lereau and Suzanne Jaroussel  was celebrated, as described in the following document:

Le 27 de novembre 1655, après publication faite de trois bancs 
le 9, 11 e 14 du mesme moys, ne s'estant trouvé aucun 
empeschement, le r.p.rené Menard de le Compagnie de Jésus, 
ayant pouvoir, a marié Solemnellement Simon Leureau, fils e 
héritier de rené Leureau e de Marguerite Guillin avec 
Suzanne Jaroussel, fille de Pierre Jaroussel e de Jaquete 
Touraude, dans la Chapelle de l'Isle d'Orléans, en presence de 
temoins cognus Jean baillargeon e Pierre petit. 

On November 27 1655, after publication of three bans 
on 9, 11 and 14 of the same month, not having found any 
impediment, the r.p. rené Menard of the Company of Jesus, 
having the power, has Solemnly married Simon Leureau, son and 
heir of rené Leureau and of Marguerite Guillin with 
Suzanne Jaroussel, daughter of Pierre Jaroussel and of Jaquete 
Touraude, in the Chapel of l'Isle d'Orléans, in the presence of 
known witnesses Jean baillargeon and Pierre petit.

The marriage was recorded in the register of the parish of Notre-Dame de Québec.
