From Moulins, FranceJean Frédérique dit Lafontaine came to New Orleans, LA around 1718. He was the son of Jean Frederique and Marie LeChauffe of Moulins, France. His descendants settled along the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisanna.This story was told in the book Gulf Coast Genealogy, "The Fontain Family" by Bro. Jerome Lepre, New Orleans, LA (1992). If still available, the book can be obtained at Brothers of the Sacred Heart, 4601 Elysian Fields Avenue, New Orleans, La. 70122 This information was given to me by Harriett Lowell Glisson of Mobile, AL, a descendant of Jean Frédérique From Luxemburg, BelgiumJoseph LaFontaine was born in Luxemburg, Belgium, on October 20, 1841 , coming to America in 1857, locating in Brown county, Ohio, where, on October 23, 1862, he married Catherine Jacquet, three children, two sons and a daughter being born to this union. In 1877, Mr. LaFountaine came to Kansas-on the farm formerly owned by Dr. E. B. Allen, former secretary of state. Though never aspiring to office, Mr. LaFontaine has been twice elected and for seven terms was elected to the office of treasure of his home township-Wabaunsee.Was elected treasurer of Wabaunsee county in 1899 and is the present incumbent in one of the most important offices in the gift of the people.
